Interest areas

1. Pharmaceutical Industrial Research (New product development)

The pharmaceutical Quality by Design (QbD) is a systematic approach to development that begins with predefined objectives and emphasizes product and process understanding and process control, based on sound science and quality risk management. Design of experiments (DOE), risk assessment, and process analytical technology (PAT) are tools that may be used in the QbD process when appropriate. Dr. Maheshwari is involved in some research projects based on QbD in collaboration with leading pharmaceutical companies.

2. Nanomedicines (Nanotechnology-based medicines)

Nanomedicine is a branch of medicine that applies the knowledge and tools of nanotechnology to the prevention and treatment of diseases. Research interest involves development of Lipid-based drug delivery system (Liposomes, ethosomes, transferosomes), nanoparticles (gold, silver, albumin, chitosan) for the delivery of ‘difficult to deliver’ therapeutic molecules.

3. Graphene-based delivery system

Graphene is the thinnest material known to be present on the earth. It is already proven material for the application in many sectors such as automobiles, IT, and energy-related. Its use in delivering the therapeutic molecules or as a biomaterial has opened the newer ways for pharmaceutical formulation scientists. Special interest in the development of graphene-based derivatives is because of its immense properties such as high loading efficiency, mechanical strength, and photothermal ability. Photothermal properties are of specific interest in the development of cancer therapeutics as the cells can be ablating when the temperature rises.
